Handley Page Victor K2 XL231 ‘New’ Retro 1982 Falklands Camouflage Colours!
Those of you that have attended previous night shoots with the Victor will no doubt appreciate what a futuristic beast the aircraft still looks after first entering service with the Royal Air Force in 1961..! That's 64 years ago!! And what a credit to this airframe. Andre and his team have been ensuring XL231 remains maintained in Ground Running, Taxy condition, capable of High Speed Runs.
XL231 is now the only Victor in the world, accessible for such a photo event... So this shoot will be super special.
The photoshoot will start after museum winter closing hours at 1600hrs with an initial introduction and safety brief from out hosts at YAM followed by our COAP welcome. The programme for the evening is scheduled to finish at 2100hrs.
XL231 will have ground power applied to illuminate all the nav lights externally as well as internally with particular attention paid to the ‘Blue Hour’ enhanced by COAP external lighting throughout the evening and we plan to shoot the Victor with and without RAF Aircrew re-enactors throughout the course of the evening.
There will be 2 high fixed position steps to allow elevated views and imagery capture throughout the evening.
It is planned, weather permitting, once completely dark and everyone has secured their imagery that each photographer be allowed limited access to the flight deck to shoot the aircrew in position with the flight deck illuminated as if ‘Live’
Whilst time will be limited to minutes and seconds for each photographer as with other previous detail COAP shoots of this type, such a unique 'one off’ opportunity is not to be missed. Please note and consider flight deck access requires able bodied photographers, an individuals fitness may limit the ability to access & exit the aircraft safely.
This photoshoot promises to be one of many highlights in the COAP night shoot calendar for the Autumn and Winter of 2025 and the number of photographers for this event will be limited, so please book early to avoid disappointment.
We hope that many of you will wish to join us for this special event and look forward to seeing you on the day.
