Winter Warbirds Nightshoot

Summary

A Winter Warbirds air-to-air weekend in February provides us with a fantastic opportunity to hold a night shoot event with two of the finest examples of the warbird genre based in the UK.

After a day of flying out of Sywell Airfield, we will undertake our night shoot with the outstanding P-47 'Nellie B' and the glorious Hawker Tempest.

The P-47 Thunderbolt and Hawker Tempest are legendary WWII aircraft that earned their place in history through power and resilience. The P-47 Thunderbolt, affectionately nicknamed "The Jug," was a workhorse of the Allied forces, known for its rugged durability and devastating firepower. It excelled in both air combat and ground-attack missions, with its robust radial engine allowing it to absorb incredible amounts of damage and return pilots safely home.

A robust airframe and massive Napier Sabre engine ensured the Hawker Tempest excelled as a high-speed low-altitude interceptor. It famously countered the threat of German V-1 flying bombs and outperformed enemy aircraft like the Focke-Wulf Fw 190. These iconic planes, with their storied pasts and distinctive designs, offer photographers an incredible opportunity to capture the essence of WWII aviation history.

At present, the event is planned to start just after sunset and will include an engine run (aircraft serviceability permitting). There will not be any actors for this shoot, just the aircraft themselves.

We are evaluating the feasibility of this event and are offering anyone who registers interest now the opportunity to attend for £69 per person if you register your interest (based on a minimum number of participants).
